Kysuce Protected Landscape Area offers a diverse outdoor experience with its rolling hills, dense forests, and rich biodiversity, making it ideal for hiking, wildlife observation, and cultural exploration.
Kysuce Protected Landscape Area, established in 1984, is located in northern Slovakia, predominantly within the Kysucká vrchovina mountain range. Spanning an area of approximately 348 square kilometers, it covers a variety of ecosystems including mixed and coniferous forests, peat bogs, and mountain meadows. The terrain is marked by gentle hills, ridges, and valleys shaped by the Kysuca River and its tributaries, which contribute to the region's scenic waterways. The PLA sustains a rich biodiversity with protected species such as the Eurasian lynx, brown bear, and capercaillie, alongside diverse plant communities typical for the Western Carpathians. Historical villages and preserved folk architecture add cultural value, with traditional wooden churches and agricultural landscapes common in the area. Visitors are drawn to the quiet hiking trails, cycling routes, and opportunities for nature photography.
